Silicone breast implants were first introduced in the 1960′s. Due to controversy in the early 1990′s there was a widespread fear about the possibility of silicone breast implants causing autoimmune diseases in women. Extensive studies since then have given no evidence that silicone breast implants have any relationship to breast cancer, autoimmune disease or any other systemic illnesses in patients. Specifically, patients with breast implants have no higher likeliness of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma or lupus, in comparison than those without breast implants.
The FDA approved the use of the third generation silicone gel implants in November of 2006 for women 22 years of age and older. These implants are not filled with liquid silicone, but rather a cohesive silicone gel.
The increased safety of the cohesive gel implants led to the FDA’s approval of these implants for cosmetic use. Saline implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 18 years of age and older. The FDA regulates the age of approved use higher for silicone gel implants to ensure that a woman is emotionally mature enough and fully understands the risks of these implants.
Both Saline and Silicone breast implants have their advantages and disadvantages. The silicone gel implants feel softer and more natural, have less chance of rippling, but are more expensive and have a higher chance of developing tightening of the scar tissue around the implant known as capsule contracture.
The manufacturers of silicone gel implants (Mentor and Allergan) recommend that you get an MRI after 3 years and then every 2 years thereafter to ensure that your implants are not leaking. Insurance will likely not cover the cost for an MRI. The manufacturers also warn that your insurance carrier may increase your health premiums or decline coverage if you have silicone gel implants.

The initial consultation for a breast augmentation in boise, our office takes at least one hour. The reason for an extensive consultation is that it takes time to educate the patient about breast implant surgery. Most patients have consulted the internet prior to their visit to our office. Many have had consultations with other plastic surgeons. Some have learned about breast surgery from friends who have had augmentation mammaplasty. Exceptional results from breast augmentation can only be achieved when a surgeon and his patient are willing to invest the time to talk about and plan the procedure.
We are fortunate today that over the past 30 years breast implants and techniques have evolved into improved breast procedures. Breast augmentation enhances the size and shape of a women’s breast by either placing the implant on top of or underneath the pectoralis muscle. This procedure can improve the self esteem of a woman who for her own reasons feels her breast size is too small or misshaped.
Dr. Bass and Dr. Sorensen, Boise plastic surgeons have a long history of a successful approach to achieving desirable and artistic results with breast surgery. We currently perform these procedures at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho where we have the privilege to use their state of the art facilities and top of the line anesthesia. This has helped to make our surgical procedures smooth and safe for our patients.
During your first visit to our office extensive breast measurements will be completed. An extensive history will be recorded and photographs will be taken. We will review pre and post op pictures of our breast augmentation patients so that you will not only be able to see our results but also give us an opinion about the size that you desire. We will also discuss the type of material to be used for your breast implant as well as the anatomical location above or below the muscle and the type of incision recommended. We will send you home with material to read before your next consultation to further your understanding of the procedure. It is our desire to give you the best artistic result with the latest technology and using the newest generation of breast implants.

Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast, and is performed for a number of reasons. Some women feel that their breast size is too small for their body contours, while others may be seeking to turn the clock back on the effects of age and gravity. A lack of symmetry and living with the discomfort of ill-fitting clothing that comes as a result; lost volume due to weight loss or pregnancy; coping with missing or misshapen breasts as a result of trauma, disease (such as cancer), or congenital abnormalities.

People have breast enhancement procedures for a variety of personal reasons. At our Atlanta area office in Gwinnett County, women have breast lift or
breast augmentation surgery to reduce the sagging and loss of volume associated with pregnancy, age, breast-feeding and weight loss. Patients usually have breast reduction surgery for non-cosmetic reasons – overly large breasts can cause backaches, shoulder pain and breathing difficulties. Whatever your reasons for having a breast enhancement procedure, Dr. R. Morgan Davoudi and his experienced staff can help you obtain the best possible results.

Atlanta Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – When you take into consideration all the things that can conspire to make a woman feel dissatisfied with her breasts, it’s much easier to see how breast surgery has become so common. Age and the passage of time can diminish skin’s elasticity and rob the breasts of their internal support, causing them to lose their shape and begin to reach for the floor. A woman’s own genetics can give her especially large or small breasts, and even a little of both. Besides making their owner self-conscious, breasts that differ significantly from each other add a certain degree of difficulty to finding clothes that fit. Pregnancy and nursing can bring about a veritable roller-coaster ride of changes to the breasts, puffing them up and stretching the skin, then leaving them deflated and saggy. Any one of these factors can affect a woman’s sense of self, and that can influence every other facet of her life. Dr. Davoudi has stated that one of the benefits of his profession is that it provides him a way to improve others’ lives.

It is important that you understand that no person is perfectly symmetrical from one side to the other even before a surgical procedure. Every attempt will be made during surgery to minimize your side to side dissimilarities, but such differences always persist to some degree even after the most successful operation.
There is no evidence that breast surgery alters the possibility of developing breast cancer. Mammography techniques have improved in recent years. In spite of these advances, there is a theoretical risk of compromised detection of early breast cancer following an augmentation mammoplasty. If a cancer were to develop, its detection by mammography could be made more difficult, depending on the location of the cancer within the breast, the position and size of the implant and the type of implant employed. Regardless of your decision to have an augmentation mammoplasty or not, it will still be necessary for you to examine yourself monthly for breast lumps and undergo mammography as suggested by your personal physician.

Plastic Surgery Carson City – Of the many reasons to seek plastic surgery, many are rooted in a dissatisfaction with some body part or another, but not all. Breast enhancement through the use of either
saline or silicone implants is among the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States, but would obviously be no help at all to a woman suffering from the painful effects of excessively large breasts. What might not be so easy to determine, however, is whether a woman considering implants to regain volume lost to time, child bearing, or other factors would be better served by a mastopexy, or breast lift. A face lift can help you look years younger, but could a procedure such as an eyelid lift provide similar results? Liposuction is not a way to lose weight, but is an effective way to deal with fat deposits that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.
A candid consultation with the right surgeon will help you find the answers to questions such as these and more. Dr. Kent Gabriel is committed to a “therapeutic alliance” with his patients, from his “lengthy and informative” pre-operative contacts to help you make the safest, best decision for your self, to his surgical techniques and post-operative care. If you’ve been thinking about breast augmentation, perhaps you should consider your breast augmentation in Carson City, NV.

Breast reduction in Los Angeles serves various purposes for different people. Enlarged, pendulous breasts cause a variety of problems. The medical term for this problem is mammary hyperplasia. The weight of the breasts pulls down on the bra straps which in turn produces indentation of the shoulder skin and discomfort. Along with shoulder and back pain, the surface under the breast may rub against the chest skin producing an irritating rash. Some women even experience difficulty with breathing because of enlarged breasts. Upon the removal of glandular tissue, fat and skin, a lighter, more attractive breast can be created. The lessened pressure on the chest alleviates overall discomfort and improves respiration.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The operation takes about three to four hours to perform. Sutures are removed within one week. Depending upon the size of the breasts, we perform the surgery either at one of our associated hospitals or at The Keyes Surgicenter. Those patients who choose the surgicenter are then transferred to an aftercare facility for one night.
For more information about breast reduction, contact the office of Dr. Geoffrey Keyes, a board certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who specializes in all aspects of plastic surgery.

Detroit breast reconstruction – Over 190,000 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States in 2009 according to an estimate from the American Cancer Society, which predicted that close to 40,000 would die of the disease. Faced with such a deadly malady, doctors are often forced to remove the offending body part completely lest the tumor spread. Women who must undergo a mastectomy, however, are also presented with a whole host of potential physical and emotional woes over and above the cancer. The breast may seem purely decorative from certain perspectives, but often plays a central role in a woman’s sense of self and femininity.
It would be the epitome of understatement to suggest that the decision to have breast reconstruction is highly personal. Though a reconstructed breast will never look or feel exactly like the original breast, it can make a significant positive impact on the self image and quality of life of women who choose to undergo the procedure, and a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons released in 2008 found that 98% of women would choose breast reconstruction again. Detroit plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohamad H. Bazzi, is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast surgery and a full range of cosmetic procedures.

Glancing through prosthetic history yields frequent mention of Ambroise ParĂ© (the father of medical amputation), citations of “earliest known” prosthetics, and commentary on how materials and technique changed very little over centuries. These are followed by the fact that tremendous advances in prosthetics have been made in the last century. Devices have become increasingly more advanced, with fiberglass, plastics, and other space-age materials replacing iron, leather, and wood. And the connection to breast implants in Beverly Hills?
Prosthesis is merely a word for an artificial device which replaces a body part or makes a body part work better. Arms and legs are easy examples (pirate movie, anyone?), but the term applies to a wide array of gadgets. Digits, teeth, eyes, ears, and even corrective lenses qualify. So does equipment placed inside the body surgically.
As with their external cousins, breast prosthetics implanted by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach. Each patient is unique and has unique needs and goals. Through incisions made at either the areola, the underarm, or the inframammary crease, breast implants are surgically placed behind the breast tissue and either over or under the underlying pectoral muscle. Since breast implant surgery is elective, and not generally covered by insurance, the decision to have breast implant surgery becomes that much more personal. Though the benefits of breast implants may not be as easily defined as those of a leg or an arm, they are no less real.

Plastic Surgeon in La Jolla – Self improvement has many faces, from selecting a sensible salad instead of a slab-o-steak to turning off the tube and tackling a tome of Tolstoy. Taking time for physical exercise improves not only your health, but improved health improves the way you feel generally. That may be why we seek to improve ourselves; it does make us feel better. What about the things we can’t change, however? The ubiquitous notion that a woman’s breasts should look a certain way and be a certain size runs far afoul of the reality that time and tide have a great deal more control over those atributes than she has. Dr. Robert Kearney provides highly personalized La Jolla breast augmentation care for a highly personal decision.

Los Angeles breast surgery isn’t always performed on women. Many men will develop gynecomastia for a number of reasons.
Gynecomastia, at its core, is simply an abnormal enlargement of one or both of the breast areas on a male’s chest. Of course, though “man boobs” aren’t necessarily threatening to physical health, they can be a source of self-consciousness that men who are so afflicted may be unwilling to discuss even with a doctor. Los Angeles plastic surgeon Steven Teitelbaum saw the need to provide men with a better way to privately learn more about their options, and one part of his efforts to fill that need took the form of a web site devoted expressly to gynecomastia treatment.

Saline breast implants have been used in the majority of mammoplasty surgeries over the last fifteen years. One advantage of saline breast implants is that, if they rupture, the saline will be absorbed by the body without fear of any complications. Additional benefits include the ability for a plastic surgeon to subtly change the volume of the implant within the operating room to accommodate any small differences in the volume of the two breasts. The disadvantages of saline implants are that they have a higher risk of rippling in breast reconstructive or small-breasted patients. For patients with little breast tissue to cover the implants, rippling or wrinkling of the implant may become visible. However, the majority of breast augmentation procedures performed today with saline implants lead to beautiful, youthful, natural breasts.

An area that some plastic surgeons have an expertise in is primary or secondary breast augmentation. Most of these plastic surgeons perform mammoplasty using all types of implants including saline and silicone. Cosmetic surgeons have important decisions to make when it comes to breast implants. Breast implants are available in many different shapes, projections, and sizes. The type of implant that your plastic surgeon selects should be based on your physical and soft tissue characteristics, as well as the goals that you have for your appearance. Another important thing that these surgeons specialize in is the decision of where to create the pocket and incision for the breast implant.

The silicone breast implants (now approved for general use) that are used today have a somewhat thicker shell than those that were used before 1992. They are also filled with a thicker silicone gel than past implants. The breast implants come pre-filled in various sizes and they are securely sealed so that there is little to no chance of any leakage. The word silicone with an “e” at the end is referring to a group of chemical compounds that vary in thickness from gels to liquid to a rubbery consistency. Among other things, they contain silicon (with no “e”) which is an element, just like carbon, iron, or nitrogen. Silicon is the second most common on Earth after oxygen. When oxygen and silicon are combined it forms silica which is the most common substance on the planet. A typical person would know silica in several different forms such as sand, quartz, and crystals. Silicone is used in several everyday items such as soaps, lotion, processed foods, chewing gum, and hairspray.

Tulsa Breast Augmentation – In addition to being aware of the steps a surgeon will take in performing a breast augmentation, it’s good to pay
heed to your doctor’s instructions to you. After all, no matter how skilled your surgeon, the patient provides the working materials. Common preoperative instructions include cessation of smoking for a significant period prior to surgery, as well as avoiding aspirin and other substances as prescribed by your surgeon. It’s not to deprive you of anything; these things can create complications in the operating room, such as an increase in bleeding. Your surgeon only wants your procedure to be as successful as possible. Tulsa plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Mitchell, says that your surgeon may also request a mammogram be performed prior to surgery, to be used as a baseline in detecting future changes in your breast tissue. Naturally, continued self-examination following surgery is wise.

Breast Enhancement Seattle – There’s more to breast enhancement surgery than the mechanical details; more than where the surgeon will make the incisions or the size and shape of the implants to be used. Surgically altering any part of the body is a tremendously personal choice, and the breast is anything but “any part of the body.” Whether your purpose in seeking breast enhancement is the correction of asymmetry, reconstruction due to mastectomy, restoration of volume lost to time or pregnancy, or simply because you have always been dissatisfied with your silhouette, one important part remains the same. If you choose to undergo breast augmentation, it should be because you want to undergo breast augmentation, and no one else. Los Angeles Breast Lift – Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, reshapes and raises the breasts to counteract some of the loss of shape and firmness brought on by pregnancy, nursing, and loss of skin elasticity over the years. From time to time, a breast lift will be combined with breast augmentation using implants to add firmness and volume. This may appeal to women who have seen a decline in their breast size over time. This surgery can also have the benefit of reducing the size of the areola. Although any breast can be lifted, smaller breasts will usually enjoy longer-lasting results.
Breast lift surgery performed in the Los Angeles office of Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani can last 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. Mastopexy is most often safe when performed by a qualified surgeon. Still, Dr. Mani points out that risk is always a factor with any surgery, so it is wise to know all the pros and cons before going under the knife.

Celebrities get a lot of press for having, or not having had, cosmetic surgery, and usually for purely cosmetic reasons. Though it’s hardly fair to begrudge someone for doing what may be necessary to secure employment in a career so focused on appearances, Los Angeles breast surgery seems to take on a superficial quality in the psyche. But what of those who have been disfigured by injury, accident, or the usually very difficult battle with cancer? The surgical skills used to augment the breasts of a movie star are the same skills used to rebuild a breast lost to cancer. In Santa Monica, breast reconstruction is just one of the services provided with honesty and humor by Dr. Steven Teitelbaum.
