Silicone breast implants were first introduced in the 1960′s. Due to controversy in the early 1990′s there was a widespread fear about the possibility of silicone breast implants causing autoimmune diseases in women. Extensive studies since then have given no evidence that silicone breast implants have any relationship to breast cancer, autoimmune disease or any other systemic illnesses in patients. Specifically, patients with breast implants have no higher likeliness of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma or lupus, in comparison than those without breast implants.

The FDA approved the use of the third generation silicone gel implants in November of 2006 for women 22 years of age and older. These implants are not filled with liquid silicone, but rather a cohesive silicone gel.

The increased safety of the cohesive gel implants led to the FDA’s approval of these implants for cosmetic use. Saline implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 18 years of age and older. The FDA regulates the age of approved use higher for silicone gel implants to ensure that a woman is emotionally mature enough and fully understands the risks of these implants.

Both Saline and Silicone breast implants have their advantages and disadvantages. The silicone gel implants feel softer and more natural, have less chance of rippling, but are more expensive and have a higher chance of developing tightening of the scar tissue around the implant known as capsule contracture.

The manufacturers of silicone gel implants (Mentor and Allergan) recommend that you get an MRI after 3 years and then every 2 years thereafter to ensure that your implants are not leaking. Insurance will likely not cover the cost for an MRI. The manufacturers also warn that your insurance carrier may increase your health premiums or decline coverage if you have silicone gel implants.

Plastic Surgery Carson City – Of the many reasons to seek plastic surgery, many are rooted in a dissatisfaction with some body part or another, but not all. Breast enhancement through the use of either Plastic Surgery Carson City saline or silicone implants is among the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States, but would obviously be no help at all to a woman suffering from the painful effects of excessively large breasts. What might not be so easy to determine, however, is whether a woman considering implants to regain volume lost to time, child bearing, or other factors would be better served by a mastopexy, or breast lift. A face lift can help you look years younger, but could a procedure such as an eyelid lift provide similar results? Liposuction is not a way to lose weight, but is an effective way to deal with fat deposits that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.

A candid consultation with the right surgeon will help you find the answers to questions such as these and more. Dr. Kent Gabriel is committed to a “therapeutic alliance” with his patients, from his “lengthy and informative” pre-operative contacts to help you make the safest, best decision for your self, to his surgical techniques and post-operative care. Detroit breast reconstruction – Over 190,000 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States in 2009 according to an estimate from the American Cancer Society, which predicted that close to 40,000 would die of the disease. Faced with such a deadly malady, doctors are often forced to remove the offending body part completely lest the tumor spread. Women who must undergo a mastectomy, however, are also presented with a whole host of potential physical and emotional woes over and above the cancer. The breast may seem purely decorative from certain perspectives, but often plays a central role in a woman’s sense of self and femininity.

It would be the epitome of understatement to suggest that the decision to have breast reconstruction is highly personal. Though a reconstructed breast will never look or feel exactly like the original breast, it can make a significant positive impact on the self image and quality of life of women who choose to undergo the procedure, and a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons released in 2008 found that 98% of women would choose breast reconstruction again. Detroit plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohamad H. Bazzi, is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast surgery and a full range of cosmetic procedures.

Breast augmentation with implants is a surgical procedure that can enhance your appearance by providing a more aesthetically pleasing contour to your body. This plastic surgery procedure can also boost self-confidence, and improve self image and self confidence. This procedure will not however, change your appearance to be an exact match for your ideal, nor will it cause other people to treat you differently than they would treat you before surgery.

Prior to your decision to have plastic surgery, you should give serious thought to your expectations of the surgery results, do research and learn as much as you can about the procedures you are interested in, and make sure that you thoroughly discuss these things with your plastic surgeon.

Glancing through prosthetic history yields frequent mention of Ambroise Paré (the father of medical amputation), citations of “earliest known” prosthetics, and commentary on how materials and technique changed very little over centuries. These are followed by the fact that tremendous advances in prosthetics have been made in the last century. Devices have become increasingly more advanced, with fiberglass, plastics, and other space-age materials replacing iron, leather, and wood. And the connection to breast implants in Beverly Hills?

Prosthesis is merely a word for an artificial device which replaces a body part or makes a body part work better. Arms and legs are easy examples (pirate movie, anyone?), but the term applies to a wide array of gadgets. Digits, teeth, eyes, ears, and even corrective lenses qualify. So does equipment placed inside the body surgically.

As with their external cousins, breast prosthetics implanted by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach. Each patient is unique and has unique needs and goals. Through incisions made at either the areola, the underarm, or the inframammary crease, breast implants are surgically placed behind the breast tissue and either over or under the underlying pectoral muscle. Since breast implant surgery is elective, and not generally covered by insurance, the decision to have breast implant surgery becomes that much more personal. Though the benefits of breast implants may not be as easily defined as those of a leg or an arm, they are no less real.

Breast Implants in Canton – Whenever I recall the silicone gel-filled breast implant Breast Implants Michigan issues of the early nineties, it reminds me of a cartoon showing a woman with a deflated chest and bell-shaped legs glaring at a scientist, implying that the filler from her implants had not only leaked but found its way down through her body to slosh around her ankles. Of course, silicone gel is more likely to remain in the shell or the implant pocket. In fact it may be difficult even to detect a leak in a silicone implant without an ultrasound or MRI scan.

Much been learned over the almost twenty years since the FDA withdrew its approval of silicone breast implants (FDA approval was restored in 2006; silicone breast implants are currently available for augmentation in women 22 years and up). Who are the best candidates for breast implants? Considering the popularity of breast augmentation surgery over the past decade or so, Breast Implants Utah it may come as a surprise that not everyone is a good candidate for breast implants. There’s not a specific “ideal” age to get breast implants, but doctors like Utah plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Berg recommend waiting at least until the breasts have fully developed. Dr. Berg also suggests waiting until after you’ve finished having children. Breast implants won’t affect your ability to get pregnant, and shouldn’t keep you from nursing, but there are unpredictable changes which can come to the breasts during pregnancy, and these in turn can disagree with your augmentation results. Being healthy is important as well, both physically and mentally, since this directly affects your recovery. Having realistic expectations – the knowledge that implants can enhance your appearance but won’t necessarily match your ideal or cause people to treat you differently – also helps. To help you choose the course of action best suited to you, you can arrange a consultation with Dr. Berg to discuss breast augmentation in Utah.

Is vanity the only reason why a person would undergo liposuction? Perhaps in some cases, but liposuction frequently is only a last step toward a goal Cosmetic Surgeon Vancouver reached mostly with hard work and discipline. Liposuction surgery is not a good method for significant weight loss, but men and women who have successfully shed pounds can find that fat can be more eviction-resistant in some locations than others. Physicians like Vancouver plastic surgeon Dr. Manjit Brar use liposuction to siphon away specifically targeted fat deposits and fine tune the results their patients have achieved.

Likewise, Dr. Brar provides breast implants in Vancouver to patients with a variety of motives. Breast augmentation and other cosmetic surgeries, like most surgical procedures, are usually safe in the right hands. Still, it helps to be prepared with all the knowledge you can, including thorough and on-going communication with your surgeon.

Breast Augmentation is quite popular these days, and it is only becoming more popular as time passes. Plastic surgeons are working every day to advance the safety of these procedures as well as creating much more stunning results. Says Santa Monica California Plastic Surgeon Dr Kao of breast augmentation surgery “I like to take into consideration the woman’s body type when discussing the size and type of the breast implant. The width of the shoulder and the chest wall have a very important barring on how a particular breast implant will look on a particular woman and the waistline is critical to the size of the breast implant I recommend.

Equally important for the plastic surgeon to consider are the height and body weight of the patient. Dr Kao’s goal for breast augmentation surgery is to create contour that is elegant and pleasing. A well shaped breast is one that gives curves to a woman that is balanced with the waist and hips, without being distracting, uncomfortable and looking awkward in clothing.

Dallas Breast Augmentation – What should you expect following your breast Dallas Breast Implants augmentation surgery? Some things will differ from one doctor to another. It is probably safe to say that your doctor will recommend against any heavy lifting for a while, and since smoking can cause problems with excess bleeding, that’s probably out as well. One area of divergence is recuperation time. Some doctors say several days. Dr. William P. Adams, who provides breast enlargement in Dallas, states the turnaround time for “baseline activities of daily living” as about 24 hours with the use of “several specialized maneuvers to minimize post-operative pain.” A personal consultation with your plastic surgeon is the perfect time to get all the information you can about breast surgery, including more details about what your post-operative expectations should be.

With all of the advancements in plastic surgery procedure techniques and the technology employed, procedures are becoming safer, and surgeons are now able to better predict the results. California plastic surgeon Dr Craig Creasman does exactly that with a new technology for breast augmentation surgery called 4-d Simulation. This technology is aimed at aiding in the pre-operative planning stage of the surgery.

Dr Creasman states”I discuss surgical options with my patients using this new computer imaging, which can demonstrate the changes I would suggest for the changes we would make during the surgery. Using this technology, 4-D images can be obtained in short time, which I then manipulate to give an educated estimate of what might a patients breasts will look like after breast augmentation surgery. This system also allows for more flexibility in the choice of breast implant, which helps to create a more personalized result. “

Though this technology is not a guarantee or warranty of the proposed surgical result, it does help to provide the patient and the surgeon with a visual communication aid. This is important because it allows the patient to give the doctor feedback and allows the surgeon an opportunity to convey to the patient the limitations of what can be done, as well as the possible results. It is very important for the patient to visualize how she will look with the breasts she desires, and this system becomes an educational tool in with which the patient can view the result third-party, rather than just listening to the surgeon visualizing the results while standing in front of a mirror with a breast implant held up to her body.

Breast Augmentation Palm Desert – You’re told from your earliest days that everybody is unique; Plastic Surgery Palm Desert that no two are quite the same. Usually it’s said in terms of personality or belief, but it’s true of our bodies as well. For example, two women seeking the same goal of fuller, youthfully-positioned breasts, seeing the same surgeon, may need to approach their goals differently. If her existing breast tissue is still pointed the right direction and merely lacking in volume, she may simply require implants to reach her goal.

Time and tide have a way of adding more to the equation, however, and implants can address only volume. Age, children, accidents, illness and more cause skin to lose its elasticity, breast volume to fade, and positioning to sag. Breast lift surgery, perhaps in combination with use of implants, can address drooping (ptosis) by excising excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola to a higher, perkier position.

I know a mechanic with an off-kilter sense of humor and his own shop where he repairs and restores old cars. He is fond of responding to the question, “How much?” with, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” The look on his face isn’t quite serious when he says it, Los Angeles Breast Enhancement but there’s truth in his words. Some things can be bought based on price. Some cannot. Car repairs get lumped into that price-conscious group at the peril of driver and passenger alike. Although cost still must be considered, the quality of the workmanship must take precedence.

The same is true of surgery. A surgical procedure can’t simply be discarded and replaced if it fails to meet expectations as you might do with your average consumer product. A patient considering breast enhancement, for example, might save money on the procedure by foregoing silicone breast implants in favor of saline, but the foul taste of regretting such a choice lasts far longer than the pleasure of saving a few bucks. The best approach is to be honest with yourself, know your goals and your doctor, and make sure your doctor is completely honest and candid with you.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Steven Teitelbaum of Santa Monica is a specialist in breast augmentation among other types of cosmetic surgery. Doctor Teitelbaum makes sure that the Los Angeles breast enhancement patients who see him are well informed of their options, and both the risks and rewards they may face.

The silicone breast implants (now approved for general use) that are used today have a somewhat thicker shell than those that were used before 1992. They are also filled with a thicker silicone gel than past implants. The breast implants come pre-filled in various sizes and they are securely sealed so that there is little to no chance of any leakage. The word silicone with an “e” at the end is referring to a group of chemical compounds that vary in thickness from gels to liquid to a rubbery consistency. Among other things, they contain silicon (with no “e”) which is an element, just like carbon, iron, or nitrogen. Silicon is the second most common on Earth after oxygen. When oxygen and silicon are combined it forms silica which is the most common substance on the planet. A typical person would know silica in several different forms such as sand, quartz, and crystals. Silicone is used in several everyday items such as soaps, lotion, processed foods, chewing gum, and hairspray.
