Silicone breast implants were first introduced in the 1960′s. Due to controversy in the early 1990′s there was a widespread fear about the possibility of silicone breast implants causing autoimmune diseases in women. Extensive studies since then have given no evidence that silicone breast implants have any relationship to breast cancer, autoimmune disease or any other systemic illnesses in patients. Specifically, patients with breast implants have no higher likeliness of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma or lupus, in comparison than those without breast implants.
The FDA approved the use of the third generation silicone gel implants in November of 2006 for women 22 years of age and older. These implants are not filled with liquid silicone, but rather a cohesive silicone gel.
The increased safety of the cohesive gel implants led to the FDA’s approval of these implants for cosmetic use. Saline implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 18 years of age and older. The FDA regulates the age of approved use higher for silicone gel implants to ensure that a woman is emotionally mature enough and fully understands the risks of these implants.
Both Saline and Silicone breast implants have their advantages and disadvantages. The silicone gel implants feel softer and more natural, have less chance of rippling, but are more expensive and have a higher chance of developing tightening of the scar tissue around the implant known as capsule contracture.
The manufacturers of silicone gel implants (Mentor and Allergan) recommend that you get an MRI after 3 years and then every 2 years thereafter to ensure that your implants are not leaking. Insurance will likely not cover the cost for an MRI. The manufacturers also warn that your insurance carrier may increase your health premiums or decline coverage if you have silicone gel implants.

The initial consultation for a breast augmentation in boise, our office takes at least one hour. The reason for an extensive consultation is that it takes time to educate the patient about breast implant surgery. Most patients have consulted the internet prior to their visit to our office. Many have had consultations with other plastic surgeons. Some have learned about breast surgery from friends who have had augmentation mammaplasty. Exceptional results from breast augmentation can only be achieved when a surgeon and his patient are willing to invest the time to talk about and plan the procedure.
We are fortunate today that over the past 30 years breast implants and techniques have evolved into improved breast procedures. Breast augmentation enhances the size and shape of a women’s breast by either placing the implant on top of or underneath the pectoralis muscle. This procedure can improve the self esteem of a woman who for her own reasons feels her breast size is too small or misshaped.
Dr. Bass and Dr. Sorensen, Boise plastic surgeons have a long history of a successful approach to achieving desirable and artistic results with breast surgery. We currently perform these procedures at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho where we have the privilege to use their state of the art facilities and top of the line anesthesia. This has helped to make our surgical procedures smooth and safe for our patients.
During your first visit to our office extensive breast measurements will be completed. An extensive history will be recorded and photographs will be taken. We will review pre and post op pictures of our breast augmentation patients so that you will not only be able to see our results but also give us an opinion about the size that you desire. We will also discuss the type of material to be used for your breast implant as well as the anatomical location above or below the muscle and the type of incision recommended. We will send you home with material to read before your next consultation to further your understanding of the procedure. It is our desire to give you the best artistic result with the latest technology and using the newest generation of breast implants.

Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast, and is performed for a number of reasons. Some women feel that their breast size is too small for their body contours, while others may be seeking to turn the clock back on the effects of age and gravity. A lack of symmetry and living with the discomfort of ill-fitting clothing that comes as a result; lost volume due to weight loss or pregnancy; coping with missing or misshapen breasts as a result of trauma, disease (such as cancer), or congenital abnormalities.

The first question in consideration for breast augmentation is if you want to treat ptosis (dropping of the breast) or if you only want to increase the size of your
breast. Ptosis can be treated with augmentation alone, if the patient is willing to accept the low position of the nipple‐areolar complex on the breast. However, if the nipple‐areolar complex is to be elevated then a Mastopexy (Breast Lift) will need to be combined with the augmentation.

TV’s not the same animal it was just a few short decades ago. Do you remember the days described by comedian Jeff Foxworthy
, when there were only three television channels? “And if the president was on, your night was shot”? It isn’t just the number of stations that has exploded. The content those stations carry has expanded as well. Maybe it has more to do with where and when I was raised than I give it credit for, but what I recall of plastic surgery in the ’80s had more to do with tut-tutting the latest changes to Michael Jackson’s nose than any amount of TV coverage. There’s a Plastic Surgery Channel, today. In the ’90s there was the flap over whether silicone breast implants spelled Armageddon. Today, the proudly-augmented go on Oprah (and shows like it) where we learn that we, too, may be surgically immortalized.
Television and reality never have kept much company, least of all on “reality shows.” In my experience, reality usually falls into the bland middle-ground between the highs and lows that producers see fit to broadcast. It’s true that there have been exciting surgical advances, with greater promise ahead. However informative or even unbiased a media article (or blog post) may be, however, it can’t provide the whole story because surgery, whatever its purpose or practitioner, is as dependent on physiology as it is on science. The only way to get the whole story as it applies to you is by getting in a room with a surgeon who can match up where you are with where you want to go. Preparation helps, too: bring along a list of specific questions to ask of your doctor. Listen carefully to and honestly consider his recommendations, especially the ones you did not anticipate. Remember that doctors are people, and if you consult with more than one, you may hear more than one recommendation, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And don’t be too insistent upon a particular procedure. As Michigan plastic surgeon, Dr. John Sampson, M.D., explains, “If you ask enough doctors to perform a cosmetic procedure that may be detrimental to you, eventually you will find one who will do it.”

Aesthetic surgery is Dr. Mani’s focus, and he has been performing it for over a decade. Los Angeles abdominoplasty and Beverly Hills breast lift are among the many procedures Dr. Mani has performed over the years. It is important that you understand that no person is perfectly symmetrical from one side to the other even before a surgical procedure. Every attempt will be made during surgery to minimize your side to side dissimilarities, but such differences always persist to some degree even after the most successful operation.
There is no evidence that breast surgery alters the possibility of developing breast cancer. Mammography techniques have improved in recent years. In spite of these advances, there is a theoretical risk of compromised detection of early breast cancer following an augmentation mammoplasty. If a cancer were to develop, its detection by mammography could be made more difficult, depending on the location of the cancer within the breast, the position and size of the implant and the type of implant employed. Regardless of your decision to have an augmentation mammoplasty or not, it will still be necessary for you to examine yourself monthly for breast lumps and undergo mammography as suggested by your personal physician.

Augmentation mammoplasty is done on an outpatient basis in a surgical center, usually under sedation or
general anesthesia. An implant (prosthesis) is placed through an incision, under the breast tissue or under the muscle. The incision can be made under the breast, around the nipple or under the arm. A breast implant is composed of an outer silicone shell filled with saline or silicone gel. The outer surface may be smooth or textured, and implants come in various shapes to meet the individual woman’s needs.

With the current economy money is tight and many people are cutting back on their spending, which in turn affects nearly every industry in the United States, and in some cases, the world. The cosmetic surgery industry has hit harder than other industries. This is most likely due tot he fact that most every plastic or cosmetic surgery procedure performed today is considered an elective surgery- or in other words- not a necessary surgery procedure required to maintain life.
Over the past few years, the plastic and cosmetic surgery industry has experienced a steep decline in the number of all procedures performed, but especially the very popular procedures such as Breast enhancement, Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and Abdominoplasty. In reality, it is no real secret why these ever-popular surgical procedures have suddenly become less popular. elective surgeries such as these can cost thousands of dollars, and most people are looking for less expensive solutions for looking younger.

Breast augmentation with implants is a surgical procedure that can enhance your appearance by providing a more aesthetically pleasing contour to your body. This plastic surgery procedure can also boost self-confidence, and improve self image and self confidence. This procedure will not however, change your appearance to be an exact match for your ideal, nor will it cause other people to treat you differently than they would treat you before surgery.
Prior to your decision to have plastic surgery, you should give serious thought to your expectations of the surgery results, do research and learn as much as you can about the procedures you are interested in, and make sure that you thoroughly discuss these things with your plastic surgeon.

Cosmetic and plastic surgery provides us ability to do more than just alter our appearance and find beauty through a plastic surgery procedure like a breast augmentation or a face lift. Plastic surgery can also restore self esteem, and self confidence which ultimately changes the way we feel, and in turn, change the ways in which we interact with the world around us. The terms “Plastic surgery” and “cosmetic surgery” cover a large variety of different procedures, which are designed to alter and/or restore beauty and a youthful appearance.
Procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tucks, etc. are meant to shape areas of the body and provide a more pleasing contour. Procedures such as laser skin resurfacing, facial peels and microdermabrasion are utilized to and soften and improve skin tone while Dermal Filler and Botox injections, are beneficial in reducing and eliminating wrinkles and fine lines.

Glancing through prosthetic history yields frequent mention of Ambroise Paré (the father of medical amputation), citations of “earliest known” prosthetics, and commentary on how materials and technique changed very little over centuries. These are followed by the fact that tremendous advances in prosthetics have been made in the last century. Devices have become increasingly more advanced, with fiberglass, plastics, and other space-age materials replacing iron, leather, and wood. And the connection to breast implants in Beverly Hills?
Prosthesis is merely a word for an artificial device which replaces a body part or makes a body part work better. Arms and legs are easy examples (pirate movie, anyone?), but the term applies to a wide array of gadgets. Digits, teeth, eyes, ears, and even corrective lenses qualify. So does equipment placed inside the body surgically.
As with their external cousins, breast prosthetics implanted by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani cannot take a one-size-fits-all approach. Each patient is unique and has unique needs and goals. Through incisions made at either the areola, the underarm, or the inframammary crease, breast implants are surgically placed behind the breast tissue and either over or under the underlying pectoral muscle. Since breast implant surgery is elective, and not generally covered by insurance, the decision to have breast implant surgery becomes that much more personal. Though the benefits of breast implants may not be as easily defined as those of a leg or an arm, they are no less real.

Plastic Surgeon in La Jolla – Self improvement has many faces, from selecting a sensible salad instead of a slab-o-steak to turning off the tube and tackling a tome of Tolstoy. Taking time for physical exercise improves not only your health, but improved health improves the way you feel generally. That may be why we seek to improve ourselves; it does make us feel better. What about the things we can’t change, however? The ubiquitous notion that a woman’s breasts should look a certain way and be a certain size runs far afoul of the reality that time and tide have a great deal more control over those atributes than she has. Dr. Robert Kearney provides highly personalized La Jolla breast augmentation care for a highly personal decision.

Breast Lift with Implants Lake Tahoe – If you’ve been mulling over the
notion of seeking out a plastic surgeon, you probably already have a “problem area” or two in mind that you want addressed. Maybe your breasts have lost some volume and, thanks to any number of factors and combinations thereof (including gravity, time, and children) have come to the conclusion that they would prefer a more southerly residence.
It’s possible that breast implants will resolve your concerns, but it’s also possible that they won’t. How stretched out is the skin? What other tissues are in what condition? A breast lift may be the more effective course for you, or even a breast lift together with implants. A lot depends on your current physiology and future plans. Details like this are what makes the consultation with your surgeon so critical.
Dr. Kent Gabriel, a board certified plastic surgeon who also provides cosmetic surgery to Reno, describes his consultations as “lengthy and informative.” By spending “as much time as a patient needs to discuss their situation,” Dr. Gabriel says that whether a patient pursues their surgery with him or not, they will leave the consult better informed.

Cosmetic Surgeon Vancouver – As you weigh the risks and rewards of the breast augmentation choices available, it might be worth thinking about breast implants in Vancouver. With over 40 years of plastic surgery experience, Dr. Brar is the “longest practicing plastic surgeon in the Portland-Vancouver area and Southwest Washington.” Dr. Brar often prefers to use twilight sleep to control pain during surgery. Also called IV sedation, twilight sleep can provide patients with a quicker recovery period than general anesthesia, and doesn’t require the use of a breathing tube. It can even make it possible for the patient to interact with the doctor during surgery.
What’s more, Dr. Brar believes in the value of patient education. He states that his “goal is to thoroughly educate patients…and allow them to make the best decision for themselves.” A personal consultation with a qualified surgeon prior to pursuing cosmetic surgery is an important step, and it’s a free one with Dr. Brar.

Face Lift Los Angeles – There are so many factors working against your youthful appearance,
it’s a wonder we don’t all look 75. Sunlight, gravity, age, weather, illness, trauma, and even simple day-to-day use are all circling us like sharks looking to gobble up our youth. Plastic surgery may not be for everyone, and it won’t make you look 20 forever, but it can turn the clock back a bit. Looking younger is a benefit in itself, but can lead to additional positives. Self confidence is so often closely tied to appearance, and both have an effect on interaction with others. Los Angeles plastic surgeon, Dr. Marc Mani, is a specialist in facial rejuvenation surgery. Because of Dr. Mani’s skill and technique, patients undergoing facelifts in his office often come away looking 10 to 15 years younger.

Breast Implants in Canton – Whenever I recall the silicone gel-filled breast implant
issues of the early nineties, it reminds me of a cartoon showing a woman with a deflated chest and bell-shaped legs glaring at a scientist, implying that the filler from her implants had not only leaked but found its way down through her body to slosh around her ankles. Of course, silicone gel is more likely to remain in the shell or the implant pocket. In fact it may be difficult even to detect a leak in a silicone implant without an ultrasound or MRI scan.
Much been learned over the almost twenty years since the FDA withdrew its approval of silicone breast implants (FDA approval was restored in 2006; silicone breast implants are currently available for augmentation in women 22 years and up). Much of the pertinent information about breast implants is only applicable on a personal basis, based on the physiology of the individual patient. This makes your doctor consultation vitally important. Dr. Bazzi is a board certified Michigan plastic surgeon who can provide you the personalized information you need.

Who are the best candidates for breast implants? Considering the popularity of breast augmentation surgery over the past decade or so,
it may come as a surprise that not everyone is a good candidate for breast implants. There’s not a specific “ideal” age to get breast implants, but doctors like Utah plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Berg recommend waiting at least until the breasts have fully developed. Dr. Berg also suggests waiting until after you’ve finished having children. Breast implants won’t affect your ability to get pregnant, and shouldn’t keep you from nursing, but there are unpredictable changes which can come to the breasts during pregnancy, and these in turn can disagree with your augmentation results. Being healthy is important as well, both physically and mentally, since this directly affects your recovery. Having realistic expectations – the knowledge that implants can enhance your appearance but won’t necessarily match your ideal or cause people to treat you differently – also helps. To help you choose the course of action best suited to you, you can arrange a consultation with Dr. Berg to discuss breast augmentation in Utah.

Saline breast implants have been used in the majority of mammoplasty surgeries over the last fifteen years. One advantage of saline breast implants is that, if they rupture, the saline will be absorbed by the body without fear of any complications. Additional benefits include the ability for a plastic surgeon to subtly change the volume of the implant within the operating room to accommodate any small differences in the volume of the two breasts. The disadvantages of saline implants are that they have a higher risk of rippling in breast reconstructive or small-breasted patients. For patients with little breast tissue to cover the implants, rippling or wrinkling of the implant may become visible. However, the majority of breast augmentation procedures performed today with saline implants lead to beautiful, youthful, natural breasts.
